Nueces Court System & Jurisdictions

The county has an extensive court system, and each court handles specific categories of cases.

  • District Courts — handle serious criminal cases (felonies), civil lawsuits over $200,000, divorce and child custody cases, as well as real estate matters. The county has several district courts with different specializations.
  • County Courts at Law — handle misdemeanors (less serious crimes), civil cases with smaller claims, appeals from Justice of the Peace Courts, and some probate matters (the judicial process of settling an estate).
  • Justice of the Peace Courts — small claims up to $20,000, eviction cases, as well as issuing search warrants and magistrating arrested individuals.
  • Municipal Court (Corpus Christi) — violations of city ordinances, traffic fines, and minor Class C misdemeanors. Warrants can be checked through the municipal court warrant search.

Appeals from district courts go to the Thirteenth Court of Appeals, which sits in the Nueces County Courthouse on the 10th floor. Federal cases are handled by the Southern District of Texas District Court, Corpus Christi division.

Nueces Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

To find out the schedule of hearings for today, tomorrow, or the current week, contact the office of the relevant court — District Clerk or County Clerk. Each district and county court publishes its own calendar.

  1. Call the District Clerk's office at (361) 888-0450 and provide the case number or party's name.
  2. Visit the public terminals at Nueces County Courthouse at 901 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi — current schedules are available there.

  4. Electronic case documents, including hearing dates, can be filed and tracked through eFileTexas.gov — the official electronic filing system for Texas courts.

Individual judges' calendars are usually updated weekly. If you need a specific date, it is most reliable to call the court office handling your case directly.

How to Get a Copy of a Nueces Court Document

You can obtain a court document copy in three ways: online, in person, or by mail. The type of copy determines the cost and request procedure.

Certified and Regular Copies

A certified copy has the clerk's seal and legal validity — it is required for submission to other courts, government agencies, or for real estate transactions. A regular (uncertified) copy is suitable for review.

Channels for Obtaining
